Why World Agents: Five Counterpoints to the Industry Consensus

1. Why not Physical AI?

Because spatial intelligence is substrate-independent. A high-stakes virtual simulation, an operating system desktop, or a 3D gaming universe imposes spatial rules, temporal dynamics, and resource penalties just as real as mechanical torque. Confining spatial intelligence to physical actuators ignores the richest synthetic training grounds we have.

2. Why not World Models?

Because passive prediction is not agency. A world model forecasts the next frame or state transition from the sidelines. A spectator watching television possesses an internal world model of the screen, yet exerts zero consequence upon it. A World Agent closes the loop: it perceives, decides, intervenes, and absorbs the consequences.

3. Why not Embodied AI?

Because "embodiment" in modern industry discourse has been narrowed to physical robotics demos. True embodiment is not a pair of metallic limbs; it is situated immersion within an environment whose state resists the agent and responds to its actions. Whether that body is a robotic rover or an autonomous process navigating digital terrain is secondary.

4. Why not AI Agents?

Because the current consensus has reduced "agents" to stateless prompt chains and brittle API orchestrations. They query external tools in vacuum chambers without persistent situational awareness or spatial memory. A World Agent is anchored in a continuous environment where state persists and context accumulates over time.

5. Why not Digital Twins?

Because a digital twin is an observational mirror built to monitor, not an actor authorized to intervene. It reflects what is happening without participating in what happens next. A World Agent does not merely mirror an environment; it inhabits it.
